I'm looking for storms to fire west of a line from about Hays to about Liberal around 4 or 5pm. Moisture is pouring in this morning,a nd will lead to patch low clouds across the eastern 2/3 of Kansas through mid-afternoon. But clearing near and behind the dry line will provide enough heating that unstable air is expected to breach the capping inversion.
Once storms get going they are expected to remain supercellular for several hours. Very large hail and tornadoes, a few of them strong, are expected through around sunset. Any tornadic storm around sunset may see a boost from a strong low-level jet due in about that time. Storms will eventually congeal into a mass or line, transitioning the threat to straight line wind and very large hail in north central Kansas,
